WESTPORT, CONN. Yueli Liu "Lucy" Yang passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009 in Norwalk Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 42. She was the beloved wife of Ken Yang for over twenty years, and mother to three children: son Michigan Yang 19, daughter Janice Yang 16, and son Joseph Yang age 14, all of Westport. Born in Tian Jin, China, she was the daughter of En Yu Liu and the late Jun Fen Guo. She was deeply loved by her brother WenHao Liu, sister Yue Ling Liu, and father and mother-in law, Jin Sheng Yang and Xiu Zhen Wang. Having emigrated from China in 1990, shortly after the birth of her first son Michigan, she joined her husband in Kentucky. She had persistently fought to acquire her visa in order to join her husband, Ken, after being denied a visa thirteen times. Two years later her daughter, Janice, was born after they had moved to South Carolina. The family finally settled in Westport Connecticut, where her third child Joseph was born. Mrs. Yang had earned her bachelor degree in Architecture and Management in the late 1980's. She was known to be a dedicated volunteer and did extensive charity work for many non-profit organizations. She was very involved in the lives of her children. A classic "Hockey mom", her main passion was her family. Her daughter Janice is one of the most talented players in CT and a future Olympic prospect, while her son Michigan is also an extremely talented player as well. Mrs. Yang's youngest son Joseph is a 9th grade student at Staples High school of Westport. Lucy had many passions in life. She enjoyed many crafts such as needlepoint and cross-stitching. To all who knew her she was a person with a perpetual smile, a fighting spirit and lots of energy which she shared with all who had the great pleasure of knowing her. She will be very much missed by her family and friends, and will be forever loved. Friends may call to Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM.
