NORWALK, CONN William Joseph Sanders, Jr. of Norwalk passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in his home, after being stricken ill. He was 83. His beloved wife, Mary E. (Tamatsu) of nearly sixty-two years, passed away in December of 2009. Born in Norwalk on March 16, 1926, William was the son of the late William J. Sr. and Grace L. (Northrup) Sanders and attended local schools. He served our nation during WWII and Korean Conflict in the United States Marine Corps. William worked as a technical supervisor for the former Bridgeport Press for thirty-three years. He then worked at Powdered Metals of Norwalk for five years, until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement, William was able to enjoy more time with his beloved wife and soul mate, Mary and traveled throughout Central America. He also enjoyed working in his greenhouse. A devout Catholic, William was a member of St. Matthew R.C. Church and a member of the Marine Corps League. He is survived by four nieces and three nephews. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, February 28, 2010 to Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, from 1:00PM - 3:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating William's life will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, March 01, 2010 in St. Matthew R.C. Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk. Military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk, where he will be laid to rest alongside his wife. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Matthew R.C Church.
