William C. Dwiggins

NORWALK, CONN Longtime Rowayton resident and World War II Veteran William C. Dwiggins, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on August 3, 2010. Bill was born in Petersburg Tennessee on July 10, 1914, and spent his early childhood there before moving to Birmingham Alabama. He was a graduate of Washington & Lee University in Virginia and proudly served in the U.S.M.C. during WWII. He attained rank of Captain while serving as an Intelligence Officer-Engineering Batallian in the South Pacific. Following the War he moved to New York City to start his 40 year career with Annin & Co., America's oldest flag manufacturing company. Upon retirement Bill became an active volunteer for various organizations in the Norwalk area. In 1952 he discovered the charm of Rowayton where he spent the better part of his life enjoying friends, family, boating and skiing trips to Vermont. Bills enthusiasm for life and easy going personality was contagious and admired by all that knew him. His never ending sense of adventure and eagerness for new experiences enabled him to live a vital and fulfilling life. Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, integrity, love of people, enthusiasm for a social gathering and simply being a "great guy". He will be missed by many! Bill was predeceased by brother Charles Dwiggins of Birmingham, wife of 33 years Jane Fuller Dwiggins, and step-son Frederick Ransom Grinnell. He is survived by daughters Anne Adams of Basalt Colorado,and Pam Tagliarini of Madison Connecticut, and by grandsons Langdon Adams of Durango Colorado and Daniel Tagliarini of Madison Connecticut, as well as many true and loyal friends. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday August 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Avenue, Rowayton. Full military honors will follow at the church at the conclusion of the service. The burial will be private and take place in Petersburg Tennessee.
