Wanda Ramos
1/11/63-11/21/23
Wanda Genevieve Ramos, 60 years old, was called home on November 21st, 2023. Wanda was born January 11th, 1963, in Valhalla, New York to Bernice Ruff and John Ramos. She grew up in New Bedford, MA. Wanda attended My Pleasant Elementary School, Normandin Junior High, New Bedford High School, and Norwalk Community College. She was a member of The International Church of the Nazarene and was baptized there by Reverend Chavier. Throughout her life, Wanda was a dedicated believer in Christ. She had a Bible verse ready for any occasion or situation. Wanda helped many people with her testimony and encouraging words.
She met her ex-husband, Walter King, in Mamaroneck, New York 1985. They got married in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1987. Soon after, they had their daughter, Bernice King, in Los Angeles, California, in June 1988. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1991 and had their son, Walter King Jr., in June 1992. Wanda continued to spread the love of Jesus everywhere she went; the family attended Cottage Grove Church in Des Moines, Iowa. She participated in many community outreach programs. She helped those in need on many occasions by providing a warm meal or even clothing and shelter. As her children got older, she would help their friends in need by providing a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on.
Everyone knew that Wanda’s house was the place to go to get a home-cooked meal and a good laugh. She also loved baking. Two of her most loved desserts were pineapple upside-down cake and her famous cheesecake. Wanda was full of light and love. Her presence would light up any room, and her laugh was contagious. She loved dancing and music. She always had the best stereo system; you could hear her music from a block away. She would get in her groove listening to music and cook and clean for hours.
In 2010, Wanda was struck by a vehicle while walking, and the doctors told her she would never walk again. She continued to believe in the healing power of God, pushed through, and began walking again despite the medical diagnosis. Nothing could stop her from being a missionary and spreading the love of Christ. Her Facebook page has tons of scriptures and daily devotions. Many people express gratitude for her dedication.
In April 2018, her only grandson, Maison King, was born to Walter King and Shaquala Brown. She loved her grandson with all her heart. She enjoyed taking him for weekend getaways and feeding him all the sweets his parents wouldn’t let him eat. She loved her cats Smokey and Whiska. She took great care of them; they were a part of the family.
Wanda is survived by her mother, Bernice Lawson, ex-husband Walter King Sr., daughter Bernice King, son Walter King Jr., fiancé (Shaquala Brown), and her only grandson, Maison King. She is forever remembered by her brother Joseph Britto and wife (Linda Britto), her sister Cassandra Walker and husband (Terry Walker), and her brother Marco Ramos and wife (Joy Ramos). She is also loved and remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Wanda is predeceased by her father, John Ramos, brothers Rico, Ricky, and Scott Ramos. Grandmother, Mary Evans, Aunt Joyce Ann Miller, Aunt Julia Bennett, and husband (Eddie Bennett), Aunt Susan Wright, cousin, Kim Baskerville and friend Annie Marshall.
