Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Vito Quatela, passed away peacefully on October 24 at the age of 91, just one month shy of his 92nd birthday.
Vito was born in New York City on November 24, 1932, although he spent most of his childhood in Italy with his parents and two older sisters, Maria and Rosa, until the age of 18 when his family emigrated to the US. He served in the US Army from 1956-1957. He and his wife Linda met and bonded over their mutual appreciation for dancing, marrying in 1975. They continued to share this love throughout their long marriage, often found dancing at St. Joseph Parish dinner dances in Astoria, NY, where they settled and started their family, welcoming their son, Steven, in 1979. Vito was proud to be the parish sacristan at St. Joseph’s Parish for 20 years in his retirement, after a long career of 37 years working at the United States Post Office in Manhattan. He had a great devotion to his family and loved sharing meals together and listening to music on his radio, with Frank Sinatra and music of the Big Band era being his favorites.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, to whom he was married for 49 years and his son, Steven, husband of Kim, and his 7 grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Grace, Rose, Peter, Thomas, and John. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Maria Baldino and Rosa Mangione, their husbands, Maggiorino Baldino and Pasquale Mangione, and his nephew Cataldo Mangione.
His wake will be held at Raymond Funeral Home on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 4:00-8:00pm. The funeral will be held at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk, CT on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 10:00am. All friends and family are welcome.
