Violet Marie Pernicka

January 5, 1924 — July 12, 2009

NORWALK, CONN Violet M. Pernicka, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Norwalk Hospital following a sudden illness. Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 5, 1924, Violet was the daughter of the late William and Anastasia (Adameck) Rezba. Sixty-three years ago, on December 30, 1945, she married her beloved husband, Louis J. Pernicka. They have been West Norwalk residents for fifty-four years where Violet was active in various community organizations. Violet was an appraiser for the former Home Equity Company of Wilton before retiring in 1982. She was a volunteer for thirty years for the American Red Cross Blood Drives. She was a member of the New England Air Museum where she participated with her husband in the restoration of the 57th Fighter Group Exhibit. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and needlepoint. Together with her husband, she enjoyed a beautiful and fulfilling life. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she valued her family, demonstrated pride in all of their accomplishments, and enjoyed providing for them. Her loss has left a void in all who knew and loved her. Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert L. Pernicka and his wife Barbara, of West Hartford; two daughters, Gayle Ann and her husband, Frank Gabrielli of South Windsor, and Susan J. Morgan of Killingworth; six grandchildren, Christopher J. Gabrielli and his wife Christine, Lauren and her husband Christopher Lindahl, Robert Pernicka Jr., Elizabeth Pernicka, Heather Morgan, and Charles Morgan Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Gabrielli, Jonathan Lindahl, and Chase Gabrielli. Violet's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM-8:00PM. Her funeral service will be held in the parlor at the conclusion of calling hours, 8:00PM. Interment will be held privately in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Mid-Fairfield County Chapter, 158 Brooklawn Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604 or the New England Air Museum, 36 Perimeter Road, Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
