Violet A Gordon

February 4, 1934 — November 30, 2009

NORWALK, CONN Violet A. Gordon of Norwalk passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009 in Norwalk Hospital, following an illness. She was 75. Born in Kingston, Jamaica on February 04, 1934, Violet was the daughter of the late Joe Bucknor and Millicent Levy and the wife of Vincent Gordon. She attended local schools and in the 1960's emigrated to New Canaan where she became the senior caregiver to the Wooters family. For many years, Violet balanced her life of raising and providing a loving home for her children in Norwalk with working and caring for her "second family," The Wooters of New Canaan. She was affectionately known as the "Master Chef" of the household and created one of a kind dishes' for her family and friends. Violet's loving and caring nature gave her the ability to love us all so selflessly. She was dedicated, dependable and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She is survived by two sons, Robert S.J. Gordon of Vancouver, Washington and Hugh R. Foote of Bridgeport; five daughters, Barbara D. White of Chicago, Illinois, Pamela M. Gordon of Stamford, Pauline A.T. Gordon of Kingston, Jamaica, Joan A. Gordon of Norwalk and Althea M. Fagan of Bolingbrook, Illinois; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two longtime friends, Selvyn Moore of Stamford and Michael Cameron of Norwalk. Not to be forgotten is her extended Wooters family: Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wooters of New Canaan; Jennifer, Pamela, Joanie and Diane and their respective families. Violet's family will receive friends on Monday, December 07, 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 11:00AM until high noon. Her funeral service will follow at the conclusion of calling hours in the parlor. The Rev. David L. James will officiate. Violet will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk. The family would like to thank Norwalk Hospital and their Hospice staff for the extraordinary care they provided Violet during her final weeks. They also would like memorial contributions in Violet's name to be made to VITAS Hospice, 777 Commerce Drive, Fairfield, CT 06825.
