NORWALK, CONN Theresa "Terry" Genevieve Carroll, a long-time Norwalk resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2011. She was born on November 24, 1925, in Ossining, NY. Theresa was the daughter of Charles and Genevieve (Phillips) Caterino. A devoted mother to her 10 children, Theresa still found time to help others. There was always room for one more at the table, and her home was always open, warm and welcoming to friends and family. She was an active member in the many programs within the Catholic Church, including Youth Ministry, Cursillo, Emmaus, Marriage Encounter, and as a Eucharistic Minister. In 2000, Theresa was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Thomas H. Carroll, who was a TWA airline pilot for 45 years. They traveled the world together and with their children and spent summers at their beachfront home on Fire Island where Theresa and Tom first met and fell in love in the early 1950s. Theresa's love and kindness, selflessness and, most of all, her great sense of humor, helped everyone around her through life's daily challenges. She also enjoyed painting, photography and playing the piano and was an accomplished cook, avid reader, and crossword puzzle aficionado. She is survived by her seven daughters and three sons, their spouses, 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild all united by the great love for the spiritual and emotional center of this large and wonderful family: Thomas Carroll Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL, his wife, Kari, and their daughter Katrina and son Thomas III; Laura Carroll-Koch of Madison, CT, and her four sons, William III, Spencer, Coleman, and Carter; Patricia Firla of Monroe, CT, her husband, Bill, and daughters Kirsten and Juliette and granddaughter Maggie; Lisa von Stuelpnagel of Darien, CT, her husband, Bert, and sons Moritz, Alexander and Christopher; Theresa Eymann of Lake Tahoe, CA, and her husband, Darrell; Linda Carroll of Chicago; Susan Reid of Wilton, CT, her husband, Fergus IV, and their son Fergus V and daughter Isabel; Nancy Carroll Kelly of Norwalk, CT, and her daughters Genevieve and Caroline; Michael Carroll of Wilton, CT, and his wife, Elena, and their sons Jack and Michael Jr., and Daniel Carroll of Rowayton, CT. In addition, she was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Caterino and George Caterino. Theresa's family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM - 8:00PM. Her funeral will be held at 9:15AM on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from the parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 229 Danbury Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Monsignor Stanley Rousseau, Monsignor John Sabia and Father Albert Castillino will concelebrate. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
