Stavros Moisiades
March 5, 1930- May 8, 2025
Stavros Moisiades, 95, of Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born in the village of Exohi, Greece, he was the beloved son of Ioannis Moisiades and Sofia (Koumasidou) Moisiadou, proud descendants of Pontian Greek heritage.
One of ten siblings, Stavros grew up in a home shaped by tradition, resilience, and deep cultural roots. He was married to the love of his life, Palasi Moisiades of Spilia, Greece, for 73 years. In his younger years, he ran the village kafenio, where neighbors gathered daily to share coffee, food, conversation, and community—a place where his warm spirit and quiet wisdom touched many.
On June 5th, 1970, seeking a better future, they immigrated to the United States together with their three children—Ioannis, Tasos, and Sophie—and settled in Norwalk, Connecticut. Stavros worked tirelessly in local factories and the Norwalk Hospital, embodying the values of hard work, humility, and dedication for the sake of his family.
Even in his new home, Stavros never lost touch with his roots. He volunteered his time cooking at the local Pontian Society in Norwalk and at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church festivals, sharing his talents and love of food to bring people together and preserve his heritage for the next generation.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved tending to his garden and proudly grew the tallest tomato plants around. His shelves were always lined with jars of homemade toursi, carefully prepared and generously shared. At family gatherings, you could always find him on the dance floor, moving proudly and gracefully to traditional Pontian dances. He also loved to sing traditional Pontian songs.
Stavros was a pillar of strength and love in his family. He played an important role in raising his grandchildren, who he called his “ninakia”—Stavros, Bobby, Maria, Eleni, Nikos, Maria, and Stavros—and poured his heart into guiding, protecting, and loving them unconditionally. He also loved his grandchildren by marriage Toula, Costa, and Lauren. In his later years, his face would light up with joy at the sight of his great-grandchildren—Yianna, Nikos, Daphnie, Zoey, Andy, and Penelope—whose laughter brought him endless happiness. The greatest garden he seeded, tended to, watered, loved, and admired was his family.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Palasi; his son Ioannis Moisiades and wife Ioanna; his daughter Sophia Afouxenides and husband George; and his daughter-in-law Vasiliki Tsanaktsidou. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all nine of his siblings, his beloved son Anastasios (Taso) Moisiades, his beloved grandson Haralambos (Bobby) Moisiadis, and his great-granddaughter Sofia Koudanis.
Stavros leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, humor, and quiet strength. His memory lives on in every Pontian song, every garden harvest, every family gathering, and every meal shared in his honor.
