Stanley Rekofsky

June 29, 1925 — November 3, 2008

NORWALK, CONN. Stanley Rekofsky of Norwalk passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 in Norwalk Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 83. Born on June 29, 1925 in Manhattan, New York, Stanley was the son of the late Steve and Lora (Sulewski) Rekofsky and was educated at Brooklyn High School Special Trades and Crescent School of Radio and Television. Following high school, he was drafted into the US Army and completed his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida. Stanley served during WWII as a field lineman in Marseilles France and was responsible for repairing and installing communication lines on the battlefields. During his deployment from 1944 to 1946, he received two bronze stars for battle campaigns in Central Europe and Rheinland. Following his return home from the war, he met his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Erika (Guslawski) Rekofsky. On October 20, 1956, they married and resided in Brooklyn and raised their two children. They subsequently settled in Norwalk, Conn. in 1966. Stanley worked as an electronic technician and engineering assistant for the former Ketay Corp of New York, which merged with Norden and relocated to Norwalk, DBA, Norden Systems for thirty-four years, until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid sports fan and had a deep loyalty to the New York Mets. Stanley was also an avid swimmer. He enjoyed swimming in lakes or the ocean, and at the Norwalk YMCA where he was a member. He was known for his many infamous inventions' he created throughout the years, which were truly, one of a kind. He was a very social person and enjoyed talking to anyone he met at social gatherings or just going out and about. He also enjoyed the stock market, but most of all, devoting his time to his loving family. His zest for life and joyful spirit will be missed. Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, Stanley E. and his wife, Maryann D. Rekofsky of Sandy Hook, Conn; his daughter, Agnes A. and her husband, Edward S. Wieczorek of Newtown, Conn; three grandchildren, Annette Rose Wieczorek, Michelle A. and Christopher S. Rekofsky; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were his two brothers, Frank and Walter Rekofsky and his sister, Mary Tendler. Stanley's family will receive friends on Friday, November 7, 2008 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 9:15AM from the funeral parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Mary's R.C. Church, 669 West Avenue, Norwalk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
