SRINIVASA SAMPATH
(Oct 28, 1925 - Jan 14, 2020)
Srinivasa Sampath was a gentle soul whose words and actions were always based in kindness and an unfaltering patience. He was born on Oct 28, 1925 to Alamelu and Srinivasa Iyengar in Chennai. The second of 4 children, he held a special soft corner for his siblings. In 1949 he married Sakuntala Soundararajan and they had a blessed married life for 70 years. A chemical engineer by profession with a passion for numbers and math puzzles, he would always be busy with a sudoku book, a mind boggling math problem or a hands-on project. If there ever was an occasion when he was extra animated, it was most likely caused by his favorite pastime, watching and talking about cricket - recalling rare stats and reminiscing about its history. But beyond all of his interests, he is most remembered for his feather soft demeanor towards one and all, belied by a razor sharp mind. Whether it was the meditative churning of buttermilk in his Chennai home, or the re-telling of a fairytale to his grandchildren, he possessed tremendous equanimity, always positive and smiling. He carried this energy with him wherever he was and with whomever he interacted, and uplifted others by just being himself. He will be missed greatly by one and all he touched during his blessed life.
