NORWALK, CONN. Charles "Skip" Wilhelm passed away at his home in Norwalk, on Friday, August 22, 2008. He was 57 years old. Skip was born in Mexico and grew up in Westport. His parents, John and Peggy, authored several editions of The Wilhelm's Guide to Mexico and Skip traveled extensively throughout the country. He graduated from Ohio University, where he met his future wife, and worked for The New York Times, Crain's Communications and ITC before going into business for himself. He was an avid motorcyclist, sailor, kite flyer and founder of The Bamboo Theatre. A voracious reader, he seemed to know something about everything. His family was the most important thing in the world to him. We, his daughters Leigh and Evan, and his wife Laurie, were blessed to have had him in our lives. He has one sister Martha Kessler of Millis, MA, two brothers - Richard, of Clearwater, FL and Lawrence, of Annapolis MD and many nieces and nephews. Skip was a special person who never realized just how many lives he touched. He was a really nice guy, with a great sense of humor, who would do anything for you. For those of us who knew him, he's left a hole that will never be filled, but he's also left us with memories that will always make us smile. Skip would like that. Skip was very involved with The West Norwalk Association and the West Norwalk Meeting House. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to West Norwalk Meeting House, c/o Thomas Aikenhead, Treasurer, 82 Ledgebrook Drive, Norwalk CT 06854. His funeral arrangements were held privately, however, you may send condolences to the family by selecting "Sign the Guestbook", located on the bottom left hand side of this page. The family has chosen Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, to assist them in the arrangements.
