WILTON, CONN Shirley Yvonne Huston Young, loving wife and mother and former longtime Westport (CT) resident, died peacefully at Brookdale Place of Wilton (CT) on October 18th, 2010. Shirley was born in Schenectady, NY, on June 9, 1926 to Orrin R. and Blanche Gallant Huston of Scotia (NY). She was predeceased by brother Robert, sister Blanche Stahl, both of Scotia, and her husband of 57 years, Richard Allen Young, late of Wallingford (CT). She is survived by three children, Bruce Young of Vermontville, NY, Karen Rasmussen of Wilton, CT, and Lisa Young-Fleming of New Rochelle, NY, as well as their respective spouses, Shir Filler, Randy Rasmussen, and Jim Fleming, and three grandchildren, James and Cedar Young and Grant Rasmussen. Many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws will miss her as well. Shirley graduated Scotia High School in 1944, became a visiting nurse, married her sweetheart, Richard, in 1950 and moved with him to various locales throughout his career. In 1969 Shirley and family moved to Westport where she resided until 2000, then retired to Wallingford (CT). She eventually moved to Wilton in 2006. Wherever she lived, be it New York, Alabama, England or Connecticut, Shirley was an avid painter, gardener and cook who also loved to attend theater and museums, as well as entertain and visit friends and family whenever possible. Her loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Having been in a state of declining health for the past five years, Shirley will be laid to rest beside her beloved Richard in Schoharie County, NY. Services will be held privately.
