SOUTH NORWALK, CONN Salvatore "Sal" G. Sogliuzzi of South Norwalk passed away on October 31, 2009 in The Connecticut Hospice of Branford, following a lengthy illness. He was 75. His beloved wife, Alaide F. (Guedes) Sogliuzzi of fifty-one years, passed away on April 16, 2008. Born on December 15, 1933 in Castel Nuovo, Provincia di Puglia, Italia, Sal was the son of the late Agostino and Maria Sogliuzzi of Italia. He was educated in local schools. After receiving a certificate of stone masonry in 1952, he relocated to Brasilia where he worked in the capitol building in Brasilia. Thereafter and together with his family, he immigrated to South Norwalk in 1977. Sal was a self employed stone mason and operated the former Sal and Sons of Norwalk for many years. Following retirement in the late 1990's, he continued to devote his time to his family. He was an avid wine maker and loved to garden. He is survived by three sons, Rinaldo and his wife, Jacqueline Sogliuzzi of Monroe, August and his wife, Molly Sogliuzzi of Winstead and Franco G. Sogliuzzi, whom lived with him; a daughter, Anna and her husband Richard Pack of Milton, FL; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Antonietta Sogliuzzi of Norwalk and many nieces and nephews. Sal's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 03, 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. His funeral will be held in the funeral parlor at the conclusion of calling hours, 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Riverside Cemetery, following the service.
