Ruth Thorpe Lawrence age 94 of Granby CT, beloved wife of Stephen Lawrence for 70 years, passed away on May 1, 2013 in Suffield House Health Care. She was born on January 8, 1919 in Norwalk CT, and was a daughter to the late Charles Langston Thorpe and Nora Collins, RN. Ruth enjoyed horseback riding, was an accomplished marksman and even started her own gun club. In high school she was voted the "Most original" and competed in track & field events. She sang solo in the choir at St. Mary's Church, and often worked part time at A.J. Collins Gift Shop. She worked for Machlettes during WWII as a radar tube inspector and was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi study group. Later Ruth retired from the Norwalk Senior Housing Authority as head secretary. In addition to her devoted husband, she is survived by a loving daughter and son-in-law, Denise M. and Paul J. Girard of Granby; two grandsons and their wives, Jordan C. & Tina Girard and Adam E. & Cherish Girard; two great-grandchildren, Olivia & Jacob Girard; several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by two sisters, Eileen Travis and Margaret Thorpe. Friends are invited to greet the family on Monday May 6, 2013 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street.
