Rubydonna J. Carlson

RIDGEFIELD, CONN Rubydonna Joseph Carlson, 88, died late Monday, November 23, 2009 at Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Carlson was born in Lamar, Colorado on April 10, 1921, the daughter of Othal Kyle Joseph and Celta Joseph. She was a graduate of Lamar High School and the University of Colorado, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. On February 27, 1943 she married the late Bruce Robbins Carlson in Boulder, Colorado, where Mr. Carlson was studying the Japanese language at the foreign language school of the U. S. Navy at the University of Colorado. They were married for forty-two years until Mr. Carlson's death in 1985. During World War II, Mrs. Carlson served in the United States Marine Corps, where she attained the rank of Second Lieutenant. After the war, Mr. and Mrs. Carlson lived in the Chicago area, but then moved to Williamstown, Massachusetts, where they remained for many years. Mr. Carlson worked for the Sprague Electric Company, eventually becoming its President. Mrs. Carlson was the bookkeeper for the Buxton School and was active in community affairs. Later, for over two decades, Mrs. Carlson lived in Wilton. She worked as a legal assistant and bookkeeper for the law firm of Keogh, Burkhart & Vetter in Norwalk. Musically gifted, Mrs. Carlson was an accomplished pianist and in later years was also a student of the harp. Mrs. Carlson's immediate survivors include two sons, Lawrence Bruce Carlson of Redding, CT and his wife Emmary, and Gregg Philip Carlson of Harvard, MA; two daughters, Nancy J. Bobrek of Trumbull, CT and Christine Ann Carlson of Passadumkeag, ME; a brother, Gary Kyle Joseph of Louisville, CO and two grandchildren, Samuel and Grace Carlson of Harvard, MA. A private remembrance will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice. The family has selected Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, to assist them with the arrangements.
