Rosemary Vervoort of Wilton, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4th 2025 at the age of 86.
Rosemary was born in Bennington, Vermont to Terrance and Eileen Riley. She was raised along with her three younger siblings in Arlington Vermont where she could often be found playing baseball, participating in Brooklyn Dodgers Fan Club meetings, or posing as a Norman Rockwell model. Scholarly from a young age, Rosemary graduated as Valedictorian from her high school where she also played on the varsity basketball team. She proceeded to earn a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Vermont and it was there that she met the love of her life, Gary Vervoort, to whom she remained married for 64 years.
Rosemary taught High School English in Vermont until she moved to New York where she worked for the Rockefeller Foundation as a liaison for international scholars. In 1971, Rosemary and her family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut where she raised her daughter and son while working as a team leader at NewsBank and subsequently as a legal administrative assistant for an immigration lawyer. As a voracious reader, Rosemary spent countless hours at the New Canaan Library where she also served as a volunteer. She enjoyed traveling to over 50 countries with her husband, caring for her Yorkshire Terrier Riley, and playing Gin Rummy and Yahtzee. Rosemary was known for her sharp mind, quick wit, and boundless love for her family and friends.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents Terrance and Eileen, and her brother Terry. She is survived by her husband Gary, her siblings Maureen and Mark, her two children Patricia and Jonathan, her two grandchildren David and Sam, her two daughters-in-law Amber and Lucy, and her three great-grandchildren Rian, RaeLynn, and RiLynn.
