Rosemary (Murphy) Pettit

May 31, 1940 – January 9, 2026

Rosemary Pettit, 85, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, surrounded by lots of love she cherished so deeply. Born to the late Thomas and Margaret (Maguire) Murphy, she proudly embraced her Irish heritage—especially the brilliant blue eyes she inherited from her father.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Thomas, Ed, Dorothy, and William Murphy, each of whom she carried in her heart throughout her life.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Kimberly Scavitti and her husband Philip, and Joseph Pettit and his wife Heather. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren—Owen Pettit, Avery Pettit, and Blake Scavitti—along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were touched by her warmth, humor, and generosity.

For 55 years, Rosemary shared a devoted marriage with her late husband, her partner in every adventure and the love of her life. Together they found joy near the water, especially aboard their first boat, Our Way, a symbol of the life they built side by side. Whether on the ocean, at the beach, or simply enjoying quiet moments together, they lived with intention, loyalty, and deep affection.

Rosemary worked for John Hancock before dedicating herself to raising her children and supporting her husband in their family entrepreneurs . A natural nurturer, she made every home feel welcoming—ensuring meals were shared, laughter was constant, and love was the foundation of every gathering. Music followed her everywhere: singing in the car, in the choir, or around a campfire, she filled the world around her with song.

Distance never kept her from her grandchildren. She traveled often to visit, swim, read, and encourage their love of books—something she believed in wholeheartedly.

Rosemary loved fiercely, lived fully, and gave endlessly. Her legacy is one of devotion, kindness, and the quiet strength of a woman who always put family first.

It is not goodbye—only I’ll see you someday, walking right beside us.
