Rose Mattera

Rose Mattera of Norwalk, Connecticut, died on August 3, 2021 at Norwalk Hospital at the age of 70. She was born on August 9, 1950, daughter of the late Gerardo and Emma Conte of Norwalk. She is survived by her brother Gennaro Conte of Norwalk.

Rose is survived by her devoted husband and caretaker, Salvatore Mattera, whom she married in 1971. This past July marked their 50 ^th wedding anniversary. Together Rose and Salvatore raised two children, their daughters, Mary Kate Milliard (husband Pete) of Madison, Connecticut, and Jennifer Mills (husband James) of Fairfield, Connecticut. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law Clorinda Iacono (husband Raffaele Iacono) and her brother-in-law John Mattera (wife Pauline  Giglio Mattera). She is also survived by her brother-in-law Louis Mattera (wife Mary Buono Mattera) of Norwalk, and sister-in-law Anna Mattera (husband Pietro Mattera) and brother-in-law Larry Mattera (wife Betty Giuliano Mattera). She will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren – Ryan, Tyler, Alexa and Max. Rose was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Born in Ischia, Italy and raised in Norwalk, Rose attended Norwalk schools. After raising her two daughters, Rose worked as a companion for Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County for 25 years. She had a passion for helping others and touched the lives of many people. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid antique collector. She loved to cook and entertain and host holiday parties. Rose will be most remembered for the love she gave to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. All who came to know and love her will remember her selflessness and compassion.

Friends may greet the family on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 2:00 until 6:00 pm in the Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am on Monday, August 9, 2021 at St. Matthew’s Church. Entombment will follow in St. John’s Mausoleum in Norwalk.
