Robert T. Onkey

Robert Theodore Onkey age 67, of Norwalk, passed away on February 5, 2018 in his home. Robert was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 28, 1950 and was a son to the late Robert Lee and Gladys Mary (Kost) Onkey. He is also pre-deceased by his brother, Peter Thomas Onkey.

Robert spent his childhood and early adult years living on both sides of the U.S. / Canadian border.  Robert attended Williston Academy in East Hampton, MA and then went on to begin his under graduate studies at Susquehanna University, then moving to and graduating from the University Of Western Ontario.  After graduating university he was a magazine journalist in Toronto, Ontario Canada.  After returning to the States in the early 1980’s he went on to combining his passion for SCUBA diving with his career and started his own company, Counter Point Marine, offering Commercial Diving services.   Bob, as he was known to most, loved the water and was happiest whether he was in it, on it or under it.   He also had a passion for the Japanese culture and had attained his Black Belt in Karate.  Robert was a kind, loving person and maintained a very strong affection for animals.  He especially loved cats and later in life his cat Sammy was his final companion.  Robert struggled with life’s challenges in his later years but despite the challenges he faced he remained an upbeat, friendly and loving person.  He never lost sight of the people that were most important in his life and always made the effort to stay in touch and show genuine caring for them.  Robert was as unique an individual as a person can be and he will be greatly missed by the many, many people whose lives crossed paths with his.

Survivors include, his step-mother, Janet Onkey, and numerous cousins.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on March 3, 2018, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the Word Alive Bible Church, 536 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850.
