NORWALK, CONN Robert L. Lownds of Norwalk, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in Paradigm Healthcare Center of Norwalk, following a lengthy illness. He was 92. His beloved wife, Elva S. (Staples) Lownds, passed away in January after sixty-four years of marriage. Born on February 12, 1917 in Brockton, Mass, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Grace (O'Brien) Lownds and graduated from Stratford High School in 1935. Following high school, he served five years in the US Army during WWII. Upon his return in 1946, he settled in Norwalk with his wife. He held various positions in life, including purchasing agent and album promotion for Capitol Records. Bob entered into automobile sales with the former Karstens Chrysler, Lane Motors and retired as the general manager of Riverside Motors of Westport in 1982. He is survived by several nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews. Preceded in death were his infant son, William who passed away in 1948 and brother, John in 1990. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, August 28, 2009 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. At the conclusion of calling hours, the funeral cortege will proceed to Riverside Cemetery, where a graveside service including full military honors will be conducted at 11:30AM.
