WILTON, CONN. Richard M. "Richie" Cassidy, a Wilton resident of twenty-seven years, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was 54. Born in Bridgeport on November 5, 1953, he was the son of the late Robert and Eleanor (Krofssik) Cassidy. He graduated from Notre Dame High School of Fairfield and then went on to receive a B.A. from Western Connecticut State University in 1976. Richie worked for many years for the Perkin Elmer Corporation and then as a Director in the Engineering department for Loral Electronics (now Loral Space and Communications). He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima of Wilton and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary where he served as a former Commander of Flotilla 72 in Norwalk. He was also a lifelong member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. Richie was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed skiing, boating, fishing, gardening and golf. Over the years he coached his sons' soccer and baseball teams and you could always find him with his camera at any of his sons' sporting events. He was also very proud of his affiliation with the Stratford Storm Senior City Baseball team. He leaves his beloved wife of thirty-one years, Kathryn A. (Kozak) Cassidy; three sons, James R., Michael R. and Daniel R. Cassidy, all of Wilton; a sister, Eleanor Rees of Florida; several loving nieces and a nephew. Richie's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in Norwalk's HOYT-COGNETTA FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 5 East Wall Street, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at 9:20AM from the funeral parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Bridgeport Rescue Mission or Building with Books of Stamford, Conn.
