KARADIMAS-Renate Karadimas of Norwalk, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday morning, August 28, 2012. She was born in Bonn, Germany in 1933 to the late Josef Pies and Maria Mesenberg Pies. Renate remained in Germany throughout the Second World War. She attended a private high school in Andernach, Germany. Along with her mandatory studies she studied languages, specifically English and French. Following high school she had an interest in the sciences. She continued her studies at a medical school and in 1950 received her degree as a Medical Lab Technician and practiced her skills in a German hospital until 1953. At that point she wanted to travel. She went to London, England where she was a private tutor of French and German for 3 years. Her dream was to make her way to the United States, and she did just that at the end of 1955. A family from New Canaan, Connecticut sponsored her as an Au pair. Following that, she moved to New York City where she resumed her career in the medical field as a Medical Lab and Radiology Technician for Dr. Marion B. Sulzberger on Fifth Avenue. She also lived in Buffalo, New York and California before settling in Norwalk. Her passion for foreign language and learning, led her to the University of Bridgeport where she majored in German and Spanish and earned a teaching certificate. She taught in the Norwalk Public Schools and also Joel Barlow High School in Redding in the 1970's. From 1985 until her retirement in 2005, Renate owned and operated Helga's Cleaning Service in Fairfield County. Desiring to continue her life long love of learning, Renate enrolled in the Institute of Children's Literature graduating in 2007. She created a collection of stories for her granddaughters. Survivors include her loving and caring daughter, Alexandra Casubolo and dedicated son-in-law Joseph (Joey) L. Casubolo. The biggest joy of her life was granddaughters, Kristina Rose and Julia Marie. Their special bond and unconditional love for one another was remarkable. Grammy and the girl's relationship and time they shared together created memories they will cherish and hold dear to their hearts. The girls learned important life lessons that they will treasure and guide them throughout their lives. The family would like to express their gratitude to Renate's dear and faithful friend, Rosemary Romano, for her loyal and unwavering friendship. In addition, the family would like to recognize, Beverly Williams for the compassionate care she gave to our mother, grandmother and mother -in -law.
