Ralph W. Smith, age 92, of Southbury, died February 28, 2016 in River Glen Healthcare. He was born August 25, 1923 in New Canaan, CT, to the late Charles G. and Annie Simon Smith. Ralph lived in New Canaan, Darien, Norwalk, and most recently Southbury, CT. He served in the US Army 6 th regiment, 32 nd infantry during the Korean War.
An active 32 nd degree Mason for almost 75 years, he served as Master of Harmony Lodge #67, New Canaan, CT in 1957, and as District Deputy to the Grand Lodge of CT in 1975.
Memberships included VFW #3933 in Darien, CT, the Monker Grotto, Royal Patrons of Friendly Court #23, Ischoda Yacht Club in Norwalk, CT and the Rippowam Family Campers. He enjoyed dancing at the Norwalk and Rocking Rooster Square Dance Clubs and sharing his thespian talents at variety shows in Connecticut and his snowbird home in Venice, FL.
He retired from Belcher’s Inc. in New Canaan, CT after over 30 years of service. He was predeceased by a wife of 20 years, Alida Wilson Smith, of Norwalk, CT brother, C. Gordon Smith of New Canaan, CT;
Half-brother, Raymond Smith of Kent, CT.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth Waterbury Smith of Southbury, CT; Son, Dan W. Smith and wife, Tina, of Plymouth, WI; Daughter, Laurie A. Freshwater and husband, John of Swansboro, NC
Step-daughter, Wendy Campbell Calabrese and husband, Joseph of Oxford, CT; Step-son, Scott D. Campbell and wife, Mary of Chesterfield, MO; Step-son, Peter S. Campbell and wife, Cindy of Beacon Falls, CT; Sixteen grandchildren and three great-children.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday March 2, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Norwalk’s Hoyt-Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. There will be a prayer service at 12:30 PM.
