Ralph A. DePanfilis, age 92 a lifelong resident of Norwalk died peacefully Wednesday evening in Norwalk Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Born in Norwalk April 11, 1924 he was the son of the late Antonio and Valverdina D’Alessio DePanfilis. He was predeceased by his wife Jennie in 2011.
He graduated from The United States Merchant Marine Academy and then served during WWII.
Ralph, was the former Postmaster throughout the region serving from 1956 to 1986.
He had been the City Treasurer for the City of Norwalk for 18 years. He served as the President, and in other leadership roles and volunteered in many community and fraternal organizations. He was the recipient of many honors and awards ( see news article Feb 24 in the Norwalk Hour ).
Ralph is also survived by his seven children: Probate Judge Tony and wife Kelly; Ralph, Jr., and wife Kathleen (Russell); Louis; Joseph and wife Susan (Napoletano); Jean DesRochers and her husband Ernie; Noreen Amato; Joyce Bretherton and husband Fred; and his 15 grandchildren: Tony Jr. (wife Meghan); Adam (wife Jessica); Dr. Jeff (wife Michela); Kelly Anne; Russell and Mark DePanfilis; Joseph M. DePanfilis; John, Stephen and Maria DesRochers; Anthony and Jenny Amato; Jessica, Rick and Doug Bretherton; great-grandchildren; John, Caroline, Charlie and Jack DePanfilis and his siblings; Mary Gargiulo, Vincent DePanfilis and John DePanfilis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday February 27, 2017 at 10:00 am St. Matthews Church, Scribner Avenue, Norwalk (PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH) with interment to follow in St Johns Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Hoyt Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, CT 06851
