Raffaele Longo age 80, devoted husband for 55 years to his late wife Maria Mastroianni Longo, passed away on August 18, 2018 in Norwalk Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Longo was born in Nicastro Lamezia Terme, Italy on September 7, 1937 and was a son to the late Francesco and Angela Talarico Longo. Raffaele was a retired Mason that had worked for Grasso Construction and also Dan Deering Construction for many years. He was also a proud member of The Laborers International Union of North America Local 146. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; enjoyed caring for his home, gardening, raising rabbits as well as cooking and traveling with his family; especially to Italy and Australia to visit his family, bottling his homemade “vino”, and making homemade sopresatta that he would often share with friends. He was a member of the St. Thomas Apostle Parish in Norwalk for over 45 years.
Raffaele is survived by his son Francesco Longo and his wife Angela; a loving daughter Angelina Vescio and her husband Antonio; six grandchildren, Maria DiPietro and her husband Salvatore, Sabrina Geary and her husband Shane, and Raffaele Longo; Eugenio, Antonio and Raffaele Vescio; great granddaughter Stella Geary; his siblings: brother Vincenzo and wife Lina of Australia, brother Tony and wife Enza of Australia, brother Mario and wife Angela of Italy, brother Giuseppe and wife Angela of Italy, sister Annamaria of Italy, brother in law Vincenzo Giampa of Italy. He is also survived by in-laws, Joe & Angela Mastroianni, Francesca & Ugo Gigliotti, and Giuseppe Mercuri; and
many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and extended family.
He was predeceased by sister Caterina Longo; and sisters in law Giuseppina Mercuri and Anna Bonaddio and brothers-in-law Frank Bonaddio and Francesco Lonetti. And beloved nephews Giuseppe (Pino) Giampa and Gino Mercuri.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday August 21, 2018 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday August 22, 2018 at 10:00 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Norwalk. Entombment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Norwalk. Please visit
