NORWALK, CONN Philip J. Garbarino Jr. passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011 surrounded by his many loving family members in Norwalk Hospital after a long illness. A loving husband to Paulette Garbarino and father to Wendy Bergquist and her husband Scott (Marblehead, MA) and Philip J. Garbarino III and wife Angela (Norwalk, CT). He was a loving and devoted grandfather to his grand-daughters, Nina Garbarino and Finn Bergquist. A U.S. Army veteran, and successful Wall Street entrepreneur, Mr. Garbarino retired to Norwalk in 2002 to be close to his family. He enjoyed the simple things in life like a good Italian meal with family, playing golf with his son, fishing, rooting for the Yanks, and doing the daily crossword. He had a vibrant smile and laugh to accompany his famous one-line jokes that could light up a room. The Garbarino family welcomes friends and family TODAY, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 5:00PM - 8:00PM. Philip's funeral will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2011 at 10:25AM from the parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment will be held privately, at the convenience of the family. Philip's family and friends would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Geller, Dr Peixoto, all the nurses in the dialysis unit, and the entire staff of the Veterans Hospital in West Haven. Gifts in Philip's name may be made to the VA Hospital, Volunteer Services, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT 06516. Philip will be remembered for his generosity, strong will, perseverance, and lust for life, His warm heart and gentle spirit will never be forgotten.
