WESTPORT, CONN. Peter M. Zaffina, Esq. of Westport passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008 in Norwalk Hospital, after being stricken ill. He was 58. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 5, 1950, he was the son of the late Francesco and Giovanna (Lodigianni) Zaffina. Peter and his family emigrated to Italy and then the United States in December of 1957 and moved to Torrington and Norwalk, before settling in Westport. He was a 1968 graduate of Norwalk High School and furthered his education at Fairfield University and completed his undergrad at Sacred Heart University of Fairfield. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Bridgeport Law School. He was a member of the Bar Association and was installed to practice taxation before the Supreme Court of the United States. Peter worked for the Internal Revenue Service as an Appeals Officer for over ten years, where he obtained several professional recognitions. He was self employed as a Tax and Law Attorney, owned and operated Peter M. Zaffina and Associates of Westport, up until the time of his death. Peter was multilingual and traveled extensively throughout the world with a special appreciation of the Adirondack Mountains. He enjoyed culinary adventures, playing his guitar and had an extensive train collection. A wonderful husband and father, his passion was spending time with his extensive family and friends and bringing his children to the Christmas Village of Torrington each year. He also enjoyed sports cars and was an avid fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a member of the Fairfield County Corvettes and participated in many road rallies and Lyme Rock racing tournaments. He leaves he beloved wife of eighteen and a half years, Mary Beth (Ziobro) Zaffina; a son, Francesco Zaffina of Westport; a daughter, Elizabeth Rose Zaffina of Westport; two brothers, John F. and his wife, Caterina Zaffina and Luciano Zaffina, all of Westport; and many treasured nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Peter's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 13, 2008 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 9:15AM, from the funeral parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Avenue, Westport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 10:00AM. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk.
