Patricia Lambert

January 19, 1932 — December 25, 2023

Marj's beloved oldest sister Patricia Lambert died on Christmas morning.
Pat Lambert (Jan. 19, 1932–Dec. 25, 2023) was Marge's oldest sister; their sister Bette is still with us (in a nursing home now, local to us).
Pat graduated from Birch Wathan in Manhattan, went on Mount Holyoke College studying pre-med (as her father wished), which wasn't at all her cup o' tea, so Pat ditched that field of study to pursue dancing with Martha Graham (!). After an injury, Pat reinvented herself to pursue the arts—scenic designer at Julliard, painter, photographer, and writer, eventually specializing in fine & fiber arts, photography, and teaching (Parsons School of Design, where Pat taught for decades, and the New School). Pat's photographs have been exhibited around the world, and she had quite a following in her day (we've many of her photos in our home; here's a couple, forgive the photo glare, though I know Pat wouldn't forgive me for it being visible here).
Here's the book jacket photo and bio of Pat from COLOR AND FIBER, which she co-authored with Barbara Staepelaere and Mary G. Fry (1986). Pat taught and lectured widely; we were fortunate enough to have Pat host a couple of her color workshops for our students at the Center for Cartoon Studies.
Pat was quite a remarkable individual. She had been in Memory Care in Connecticut for a few years now; when she was still fully herself, Pat was one of the most intense, fiery, passionate, committed, dedicated creative individuals and teachers I'd ever had the good fortune to know. We're told she passed away in her sleep around 10:30 AM Christmas morning.
There isn't any service planned (honoring Pat's expressed final wishes).
For Pat to ultimately die peacefully in her sleep, sad as the news is, is a great blessing, but this is a major blow for Marj and all of us.
