Olga Katherine Schlatter, age 96 and wife of the late James Ball Schlatter, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
Olga was an avid gardner, bird enthusiast and a jack of all trades. She was fiercely independent and had a pioneering spirit. She was equally skilled at swinging a hammer by her husband’s side to build their family home, volunteering at her local thrift shop or cooking the Sunday meal. She was beloved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Olga was born January 8, 1920 in the Glenbrook section of Stamford, CT to the late Mikail and Zochia (Kunitchia) Slivinsky. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1937 and married James Ball Schlatter on July 7th, 1940. She worked as the Office Manager for Temple Fielding Associates, the noted travel writer and as a Librarian for the Turn of River branch of Ferguson Libraries.
Olga is survived by her loving son and daughter and their respective spouses: James Michael and Pauline Schlatter of Norwalk, CT and Nancy and Roger Millard of Savannah, GA. She is survived by her dear younger sister, Marjory Freda of Fallbrook, CA. Additionally she is survived by five adoring grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Olga's life will be held from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday May 14th, 2016 at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, CT. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family has kindly asked that donations be made to the Stamford Museum & Nature Center.
