LITTLETON, NH/NORWALK, CT Nelson W. Powell, Jr., of NH, former resident of Keeler Street, South Norwalk, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in his home, following an illness. He was 73. Born in Norwalk on August 26, 1936, Nelson was the son of the late Nelson W. Sr. and Margaretta (White) Powell and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1954. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut - School of Pharmacy. In 1958, he became licensed as a Pharmacist and joined the family business, the former Stillson Powell Pharmacy of South Norwalk. Following its closure in 1973, Nelson worked for several pharmacies in the area, including the former Professional Pharmacy of Norwalk until 1982. He then worked for the former Joe Rysz Auto Parts Store of Norwalk and retired in 1995. Nelson enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and home and auto care. He also enjoyed the beautiful New Hampshire scenery, which led to his 1998 relocation to Littleton. He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Carol (Pardy) Powell (also a retired pharmacist); one son, Thomas and his wife, Alane Powell of Canton, Conn; two daughters, Susan and her husband, Bob Dalonzo of Danbury, Conn and Cynthia and her husband, Michael Grogan of Lincoln, Montana; five grandchildren, Steven, Christina, Edward, Kimberly and Jonathan and his former wife, Marian (Rowley) Bruins of Mass. Nelson's family will receive friends on Monday, February 22, 2010 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in the parlor, at 10:00AM with the Rev'd Nicholas Lang officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
