NORWALK, CONN. Mercedes Rosemin Talarico was born January 30,1943 in Bronx, NY and passed unexpectedly on August 19, 2011, in Norwalk, CT. Mercedes grew up in the Bronx and later moved to Scarsdale, NY where she and her husband John raised their only son, Nicholas. She completed her undergraduate degree at St.John's University in New York and continued on to obtain three Masters Degrees. She devoted her life and career to the betterment of special education students. Mercedes began her lifework as an educator in NYC for 25 years and served as an educational administrator in New Rochelle, NY for ten years. Eventually she returned to the classroom in Norwalk where she lived and taught for the rest of her life. Mercedes loved and cherished every child she instructed. Friends and family reminisce, sharing her stories about her school children and the amazing talents of each and every person in her classroom. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, friend, and beloved figure in the Norwalk community. Everyone she met was affected by her infectious smile and warm, welcoming demeanor. Mercedes leaves behind her son Nicholas from Boston, MA, her sister Rita (Lawrence) Reilly of Hamilton, NJ and her nephews Ralph (Anastasia) Reilly of Newington, CT and Lawrence Reilly Jr. of NJ. The Talarico family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday August 23, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM - 8:00PM. Mercedes' funeral will be held at 11:30AM in the parlor, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Interment will be private.
