April 30, 1926 — January 8, 2012

NORWALK, CONN Mercedes "Millie" Lengyel of Norwalk passed away, while surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 08, 2012 in Norwalk Hospital following an illness. She was 85. Her beloved husband, Stephen P. Lengyel, Jr. of 54 years passed away in 2008. Born in Rome, Italy on April 30, 1926, Millie was the daughter of the late Philip and Clodilde "Anna" (Di Folca) Dori. While stationed in Italy, Stephen and Millie met and were married soon after. After three years, they settled to Norwalk in 1955 to raise their family. Millie was a former longtime member of St. Ladislaus R.C. Church of Norwalk. She was a member of St. Matthew R.C. Church and with a love for singing, joined its choir. A dedicated and lifelong member of the St. Ann Auxiliary Club of Norwalk, she enjoyed all the club activities, especially Bocce Ball. Cooking was a passion for Millie in addition to spending time amongst her family, especially her grandchildren. She also was a member of the Catholic Women's Bowling League for many years. Millie is survived by three sons, Perry S. Lengyel and his wife, Tracey A. (DeSalvo), Robert S. Lengyel and William J. Lengyel, all of Norwalk; four grandchildren, John, Alex, Christian and Sean; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a brother in law, William Domonkos of Norwalk. Preceded in death were a brother, Oscar and a sister Anna. The Lengyels will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM - 8:00PM. The St. Ann Auxiliary will meet at 7:00PM. Millie's funeral will be held in the parlor on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 9:20AM, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Matthew R.C. Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. In appreciation, Memorial Donations in Millie's name may be made to: South Western Connecticut Agency on Aging & Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. HOYT-COGNETTA is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
