Melitta Rochelle Hilliard-Taylor was born October 3, 1975 to Geneva Garner (née Hilliard) and Charles Williams, and raised by her step-father Archie Garner. She graduated from Holly Hill Roberts High School in 1993 in South Carolina. She went on to study Criminal Justice at Norwalk Community College. For 10 years she worked in the banking industry before making a transition into Early Childhood Development for 10 years. She studied and expressed her desire to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She loved her son, Khamari more than anything in the world, and ensured that she instilled good morals within him. She was an avid pool player, and passionate singer and dancer. She was very smart, friendly and touched the hearts of every-one she encountered. She is known for opening her heart and her home to anyone who was in need and loved to have fun and thrived off of being the life of the party. She will truly be missed by many.
She was predeceased by her nephew Raekwon Hilliard, grandparents Clarence and Eartha Lee Hilliard, and uncle Clarence Hilliard, Jr. She leaves behind a son, Khamari Taylor. Sisters, Cheneta (Andre) Paige, Lilian (Demond) Brown, Takeya Hilliard, and Keiarrah Garner all of Norwalk, CT. Brothers, Charles Hilliard of Norwalk, CT, Tyrone Thompson of Columbia, SC, Warren Purdie of Norwalk, CT, and Kareme Purdie of Bridgeport, CT. Step-sisters Frelena (George) Garner-Amous, and step-brothers Corey (Traci) Garner and Terrance (Latwane) Garner all of SC. Nieces and nephews: Parish, Nasir, Gen-Andre, Geneva, Saniyah, Katayvia, Saige, Camila, Carmelo, and Amirah. Special cousins Natasha Hilliard, Regina Abraham, Erica Garner, and two special friends Vernitia Burton and Danielle Leach, a host of aunts and uncles, and cousins.
Melitta leaves a legacy of unconditional love to her family and will always be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Kingdom Hall, 126 Newtown Avenue, Norwalk. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoyt-Cognetta/Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, In Historic Norwalk, CT.
