MARY GRACE MATTERA

February 25, 1940 – October 29, 2024

Mary Grace Mattera, 84, of Norwalk, CT passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Ark Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Stamford, CT, after a courageous battle with dementia.

Born in Norwalk, CT on February 25, 1940, to the late Salvatore and Lucia Buono. She graduated from Norwalk High School and later was employed with Norwalk Public Schools in Food Service for over 25 years.

Mary had many hobbies, she loved to swim any chance she would get. She was also an avid reader and fantastic baker. She also enjoyed decorating for each holiday.  Mary was a true matriarch of the family and loved to laugh and spend long conversations with her husband, four special children and large extended family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 60 years, Louis Mattera, her four children, Tina Cundari, husband David. Giovanni Mattera, wife Suzanne, Gino Mattera, wife Paula, Marco Mattera, wife Kathleen. The task of carrying on her legacy is left to her thirteen grandchildren, Anthony Cundari, Maria Cundari, Marianna Cundari, Marissa Mattera, Matthew Mattera, Mark Mattera, Lucas Mattera, Ian Mattera, Sophie Mattera, Colton Fleckenstein, Hunter Mattera, Caroline Mattera, and Emmarose Mattera. A brother Salvatore Buono, wife Anne of Florida. She also leaves her brother in laws and sister in laws, who shared in the care of Mary while she went through this difficult phase.  The time and love they devoted will never go unnoticed.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Raymond Funeral Home located on 5 E. Wall St. Norwalk, CT. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Matthew’s Church on 216 Scribner Ave. Norwalk, CT 06854 at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at the St. John’s Mausoleum, 223 Richard Ave. Norwalk, CT.
