Mary Massey

Mary “May” Massey, age 61, passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on Sunday, August 16, 2020. May was born on August 20, 1958 in Norwalk, CT to the late Robert and Alvie Massey. She attended school in Norwalk and graduated from Norwalk High School. She was employed by the State of Connecticut, Adult Probation for many years.

May was a selfless woman. She opened her home to family and friends and would give her last to anyone in need. She was very close to her family and loved to have fun and insight laughter with everyone around her. May was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. Her home was always open to family and friends. What she valued most was her family. May was a devoted and loving mother as well as grandmother, affectionately known by her grandchildren as “Oma.” Her favorite pastimes consisted of playing bingo, Pokeno, cards and she frequented the casinos. May’s nurturing, compassion and generosity for others shined through in everything she did. We are completely overcome with sorrow, as she will be greatly missed. She will forever be remembered by her loved ones as an outspoken, fun spirited, loving woman. We will carry on with an abundance of love and celebration for her life.

May is survived by two children Tamisha (Mikhail) DeIrish and Gary Peoples, six grandchildren (Rain, Israel, Nicholas, Mikhail Jr., Makhi and Makari) that she cherished and thought the world of. Three brothers Thomas, Alfred (Joan), and Curtis. As well as Seven sisters Barbara, Patricia (Fred), Linda, Alfreda, Joyce, Shavonne (Michael), Felicia and a host of friends, nieces, and nephews whom she also poured unconditional love and support into. May will be dearly missed.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00am Friday August 28, 2020, at Hoyt-Cognetta/Raymond Funeral Home in Historic Norwalk located at 5 East Wall Street Norwalk, CT 06851. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, where she will be laid to rest.
