October 27, 1929 — August 9, 2011

NORWALK, CONN Martha Hanford of Norwalk, passed away peacefully August 9, 2011. Martha was a life-long resident of Norwalk and her parents, Frederick Lovejoy Jr. and Hazel Arnold Lovejoy, were long-time residents of the city. Martha, an avid swimmer, was a lifetime member of The Shore and Country Club. She was also an active member of the YMCA of Norwalk, often leading acquacise classes. She is survived by Roger S. Hanford, her husband of 60 years, and children Lisa Halasz, whose husband is Peter Halasz; Abigail Hanford; and Seth Hanford, whose wife is Desiree Hanford; brothers Jonathan Lovejoy and Frederick Lovejoy; grandchildren Alexandra and Daniel Halasz. She is predeceased by her son Jared. The Hanford family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, August 13, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 4:00PM - 5:45PM. A short parlor service will follow, which will conclude all public services. The Rev. Paul Bryant-Smith of the First Congregational Church of Norwalk will officiate. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha's memory may be made to the YMCA of Norwalk, 370 West Avenue, Norwalk. HOYT-COGNETTA is honored to assist the Hanford family with the arrangements.
