Martha Ford Bobwich

August 17, 1920 — April 9, 2016

Martha Ford Bobwich, of Norwalk CT. and Dunedin Fl. passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 with her loving family at her side. She was the widow of Charles John Bobwich and the daughter of the late Charles Ford and Jean (Glass) Ford.

Martha, born in Glasgow, Scotland, was a Registered Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Home Administrator and Certified Nurse-midwife. She graduated from the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1946 completing a 5 year program and was awarded the Strong Medal for highest academic achievement in Nursing.  She later graduated from Pace University earning her Bachelor of Science degree. Martha was a WWII veteran in the British Land Army and managed a dairy farm during her time of service. Martha belonged to the Daughters of Scotia, Scottish American Assn. and was an avid walker for the past 30 years with the Dunedin 100 Mile Club.  She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin and Norwalk United Methodist Church.  Her passions included anything adventuresome, travel, reading, listening to country and gospel music and dancing. She was a faithful child of God with an irrepressible spirit and positivity that carried her through many challenges and left a legacy of friendship and love.

Martha is survived by her two daughters Jean and Patricia Bobwich, both of Norwalk and her granddaughters, Martha Patricia Catherine Bobwich and Amber Rose Fogarty Bobwich. Beside her husband of 38 years, Martha was predeceased by both of her brothers Charles and Robert Ford and her young sister, affectionately called “Wee Jeannie”.

Calling hours will be on Friday, April 15 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall St. Norwalk, CT.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at noon at the Norwalk United Methodist Church, 718 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT.  Interment will take place on Tuesday, April 19th at noon at Sylvan Abby Cemetery in  Clearwater, Florida.  All are welcome to join the family in celebrating Martha’s ‘life well lived’.

Contributions can be made towards a memorial in her honor to sponsor her beloved Pinellas County and Norwalk Walking trails.
