Maria S. Martelli, 71, of Deerwood Manor in Norwalk passed away at home on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, following a valiant battle with a long illness. Ms. Martelli, who was born and raised in New York City, was the daughter of Enrichetta Dileone and Giovanni Martelli. Ms. Martelli was a talented hairdresser who enjoyed a loyal client list at her establishment in the Bronx. She also was a partner of Marge Connelly Custom Picture Framers, a Norwalk-based business. Ms. Martelli had a zest for life that endeared her to customers and friends, and she was an engaging storyteller. An avid traveler, her frequent trips to Europe during her lifetime provided her with a significant knowledge of museums, ancient architecture and monuments, cafes and restaurants and local haunts. Ms. Martelli is survived by a sister, Clara Zullo, and two brothers, Joseph and Orlando Martelli, all of Long Island, as well as nieces and nephews. Preceded in death was a brother, Angelo Martelli. Friends may call to Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street on Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. The funeral service will be held at 12:45PM, prior to the conclusion of calling hours. Interment will be private.
