Maria Mastroianni Longo, 72, wife of Raffaele Longo, and daughter of the late Maria Cuiuli and Filippo Mastroianni, passed away in Norwalk Hospital on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 8th, 1940 in Nicastro,Italy. She is survived by her son Francesco Longo and his wife Angela, and her daughter Angelina Longo Vescio and her husband Antonio. Six grandchildren; Maria, Sabrina, and Raffaele Longo and Eugenio, Antonio, and Raffaele Vescio. She is also survived by a brother, Giuseppe (Joe) Mastroianni and his wife Angela; and her sister Francesca Gigliotti and her husband Ugo; and her brother in law Giuseppe Mercuri; all from Norwalk. She was pre deceased by her sisters Giuseppina Mercuri ,Anna Bonaddio, And brother in law Frank Bonaddio. She is also survived by her brother in laws Vincenzo and Antonio Longo of Australia; and Mario, Giuseppe, and Annamaria Longo, predeceased by her sister in law Caterina Longo, all of Italy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and extended family. Maria and her husband Raffaele were married on May 4th, 1958 at San Domenico Catholic Church in Nicastro, Italy. Maria and her family immigrated to the United States in November of 1971. She became a naturalized US citizen shortly thereafter. Maria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, knitting, and vacationing with her family to Italy, Florida, Australia, and Caribbean. She has been a devout member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Norwalk for over 40 years. Prior to her retirement, Maria worked at the Holson Company and Norwalk Board of Education. The family will welcome relatives and friends on Sunday April 28, 2013 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday April 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave. Entombment will follow in St. John's Mausoleum.
