Maria Graciela Hernandez

Maria Hernandez, age 83 of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. Maria was born on January 24, 1942 in El Cairo Valle, Colombia and moved to the United States in 1990. She is preceded in death by her husband Silvio Sr (33) and her son Ruben (). She is survived by her 6 children, Silvio Jr (65), Luz Amparo (62), Mary (61), Rosa (60), Libia (56), Luis (55), her daughter-in-law Andrea (47), her son-in-law Jairo (61), 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many additional siblings, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren living in Colombia.

Maria spent the majority of her life living in Norwalk, supporting her children in raising her grandchildren. She enjoyed caring for others and spent her days cooking for family and friends all throughout Norwalk. It was her greatest passion, which she dedicated her life to until she retired.

Maria’s demeanor towards others, however blunt, is one of her most admirable traits. She believed in honesty and sharing her opinions to form her relationships. She took charge in heading her family, leading with strength, resilience, and wisdom. Maria took in whoever needed help, welcoming everyone graciously as the mother-figure she was destined to be.

Maria will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Though she endured many challenges throughout her life, she fought until the end without wavering in her faith and values.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 4PM-8PM at the Raymond Funeral Home on 5 E Wall Street in Norwalk, CT. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 10AM at St. Joseph’s Church on 85 South Main St in Norwalk, CT.

María Hernández, de 83 años y residente de Norwalk, falleció pacíficamente el 11 de abril de 2025. Nació el 24 de enero de 1942 en El Cairo Valle, Colombia, y se mudó a Estados Unidos en 1990. Le precedieron en la muerte su esposo Silvio Sr. (33) y su hijo Rubén. Le sobreviven sus seis hijos: Silvio Jr. (65), Luz Amparo (62), Mary (61), Rosa (60), Libia (56), Luis (55), su nuera Andrea (47), su yerno Jairo (61), 12 nietos, 4 bisnietos y muchos otros hermanos, nietos y bisnietos que viven en Colombia.

María pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Norwalk, apoyando a sus hijos en la crianza de sus nietos. Disfrutaba cuidando a los demás y pasaba sus días cocinando para familiares y amigos en todo Norwalk. Su gran pasión era la culinaria por lo cual le dedicó toda su vida, hasta el día que se pensiono.

La actitud de María hacia los demás, aunque directa, es uno de sus rasgos más admirables. Creía en la honestidad y en compartir sus opiniones para fortalecer sus relaciones. Tomó las riendas de su familia, liderando con fuerza, resiliencia y sabiduría. María recibía a quien necesitaba ayuda, dándoles la bienvenida con amabilidad, como la figura materna que estaba destinada a ser.

Su familia y amigos extrañarán profundamente a María. Aunque enfrentó muchos desafíos a lo largo de su vida, luchó hasta el final sin flaquear en su fe y sus valores.

La familia recibirá a sus amigos y seres queridos el lunes 14 de abril de 2025, de 4 p. m. a 8 p. m., en la Funeraria Raymond, ubicada en 5 E Wall Street, Norwalk, CT. Se llevará a cabo una misa funeral el martes 15 de abril de 2025 a las 10 a. m. en la Iglesia de San José en 85 South Main St en Norwalk, CT.
