Maria Civita Durishin

February 27, 1969 — January 27, 2024

Maria (Mary) Civita (Granata) Durishin born on February 27, 1969, died suddenly on January 27, 2024.

Maria is survived by her husband John Durishin, brothers Ennis Granata and his wife Diane of Norwalk, and Rudy Granata and wife Lynn of Trumbull, nieces Elise Granata and husband Kyle and Julie Granata and nephew Nick Granata. Maria was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Teresa Granata.

Maria graduated from Norwalk High School Class of 1987 in Norwalk, CT, later graduating from Katharine Gibbs. She went on to work at several different companies including SVG in Wilton CT. Maria lived in St. Augustine Florida with her husband John Durishin.  Maria went on to get her CNA certification. She cared for many people and also became friends with their families.

She loved St. Augustine and would often say, "I feel like I'm on vacation every day." Maria was born and lived in Norwalk, CT most of her life before moving to Florida 5 years ago.  Maria and her husband John enjoyed going to the beach, playing tennis or just taking walks.  They also enjoyed traveling to many national parks, especially out West.  Their house in Norwalk and Florida was always open to all who wanted to visit.  She often said, “I see more of my family and friends now that we live in Florida than I did when we lived in Norwalk”. Maria was the ultimate host. Maria made friends wherever she went, lived or worked.  She had a heart of gold and would help anyone. She was always asking if she could help others. She always had a smile on her face. Maria loved staying in touch with family and friends and would have no hesitation in making that phone call just to check in and arrange get togethers. She never was on social media because she insisted on personally calling or getting together with family and friends to catch up. She touched so many lives and was such a gift to this world.  She was an example for all of us. She will be greatly missed and we look forward to seeing her once again in Heaven.
