Margaret Lapolt

June 9, 1931 — July 19, 2008

NORWALK, CONN. Margaret LaPolt, age 77 previously of Norwalk Connecticut and Austin Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday July 19, 2008 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the daughter of Thomas W. and Frances (Smith) Bennett of Austin Pennsylvania. The oldest of eight children, she graduated from Austin Joint High School, received a BA in Elementary Education from Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA. She received a MA in education from Western Connecticut University. She went on to also receive her Master of Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. She was employed as a teacher by school systems in Clearfield and Emporium PA, Darien and Stratford Connecticut until 1970, when she began work in Norwalk and Stratford as a school librarian. While still employed by the school system, she also worked in the Norwalk and South Norwalk as a children's librarian and an adult reference librarian. She continued her work in the Norwalk Public Library System after her retirement. She was a member of the American Library Association, retired Fairfield County Teacher's Association, AARP, Kappa Delta Phi, Kappa Pi, and Community Baptist Church of Norwalk where she served on the Board of Deacons as well as member of the choir. She is survived by two sons, Mark LaPolt and his wife Donna of New Haven CT and William Anderson and his wife Joan of Gaylordsville; one daughter, Cheryl Remson and her husband Donald of Norwalk; seven grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Alexa, and Ryan LaPolt, William Anderson Jr., Daniel Anderson, Kimberly Anderson, and Brandon Remson; seven great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents Frances and Thomas Bennett, a brother, T. Lee Bennett, and her husband, Sanford LaPolt, predeceased her. Margaret's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 10:00AM in the Community Baptist Church, 105 East Avenue, Norwalk. Pastor Greg Saunders will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, following the service.
