Mary Evelyn (Evey) Hodge was born May 7, 1919 in Norwalk, Connecticut,
the only daughter of Grace Elizabeth Potter Hodge and Albert W Hodge,
both deceased. She died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 5, 2016.
Following her graduation from Norwalk High School, class of 1937, and
Merrill Business College in 1938, she was employed as a bookkeeper by
several businesses in Norwalk, culminating in the Norwalk Savings
Society where she retired as Assistant Vice President and Personnel
Officer after 25-years of service.
As a hobby Ms Hodge was always interested in painting, sketching and
making papier mâché creations. She was known for creation of a variety
of Christmas ornaments from hen and goose eggs, and was a founding
member of the Crafty Friends, a group of local crafters who sponsored
and participated in many local craft fairs for several years for several
years.
She was a lifelong member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church in
East Norwalk and served as a Sunday School teacher, Financial Secretary
and secretary of the Board of Trustees.
Under the care of the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory Ms
Hodge’s ashes will be privately interred at the Morningside Cemetery in
Gaylordsville, CT. A memorial service will be held at the East Avenue
United Methodist Church at a later date.
