Resident of Norwalk Lorraine Grace Vassallo, age 98 of Norwalk, formerly of Stamford, passed away on Sunday November 9, 2014 in Norwalk Hospital. She was born on February 27, 1916 in Tarxien on the Island of Malta and was the last surviving child of the late Constantino and Concetta (D'Alfonso) Farrugia. Mrs. Vassallo was a retired Inspector for Pitney Bowes Inc. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Vassallo; her brother Frank Farrugia and her sisters Inderiana Vella, Josephine Farrugia, Angela Thewma, Emanuela Persiano and Annunziata Attard. Survivors include a loving son Charles Vassallo and his wife Elizabeth of Hawthorn Woods, IL.; two loving daughters, Theresa Fritz and her husband Walter of Norwalk and Connie Bauer and her husband Lawrence of Polson, MT; seven grandchildren, Brett (Carol) Vassallo, Jill (Larry) May, Joseph (Maralin) Fritz, Mark (Beth) Fritz, Therese (Christopher) Griffin, Lynette (Steven) Purciello and Thomas Bauer; twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Lorraine, a devout Catholic, lived an exemplary life. In addition to her daily devotions and charitable activity, she enjoyed crochet and knitting and had made afghans for all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their choice of colors. She loved reading and was an excellent chef. She would often prepare native Maltese dishes for her family, and by cooking with her children, passed this tradition down for future generations. A blessed soul, she will be missed dearly by her friends and family. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday November 12, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognettta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday November 13, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Wilton. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Darien.
