NEW CANAAN, CONN In Loving Memory Loretta Pratt Chappell, age 49, passed away at her home in New Canaan, CT on May 22, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of the late Roy and Jeanette Pratt, Loretta was born on August 4, 1961 and grew up in the Monmouth County, NJ area, the middle child of five girls. Loretta graduated from Cook College of Rutgers University of New Brunswick, NJ with a BS in Food Science. Upon graduation, she went to work for PepsiCo in Research and Development in Valhalla, NY. She spent over 20 years with PepsiCo, most recently as Global Beverages R&D Vice President-Strategy & Portfolio Management. Loretta also worked for Arthur D. Little in Cambridge MA and the Campbell Company in New Jersey. The beloved wife of John Chappell and devoted mother to Kevin and Sean, Loretta was a warm and caring person who always had time for others. Her home was always open to family and her children's friends, who loved her pancakes, quesadillas, and holiday cookies. Loretta's great sense of humor and compassion touched countless people throughout her short life. She loved the beach and spent many holidays fishing and crabbing at their home on the Chesapeake in Cape Charles, VA. Loretta will always be remembered for her never-ending smile and beautiful yellow-green eyes. Loretta leaves behind her husband of 23 years, John, and her sons, Kevin and Sean. She is survived by her four sisters; Dawn Mans of Brick, NJ; Jeanene Miller of Del Ray Beach, FL; Rae Lynne Brand and her husband Richard of West Long Branch, NJ; and Lorraine Cottingham and her husband Steve of Lancaster, KY. She is also survived by her niece Amber Mans of Panama City, FL and many more special relatives. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26th at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Canaan, CT. Following the service, the family invites friends to the Parish Hall to continue to share memories and lunch in celebration of Loretta's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Loretta's name to either the New Canaan Department of Human Services/Food Pantry, 77 Main Street, New Canaan, CT 06840; or to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, 461 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06906; or to the Bennett Cancer Center in care of the Stamford Hospital, 351 Washington Blvd., Suite 202, Stamford, CT 06902.
