Lorenzo “Larry” Rossi, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 7, 1935, in Pennadomo in Abruzzi, Italy, to the late Giovanni Rossi and Zelina Lucci, Larry was the eldest of four children, followed by Anthony and Erminia of Norwalk, CT, and Robert of Jacksonville, FL. At age 14, Larry came to the United States, settling in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he planted roots and became a fixture in the community for the rest of his life.
Learning a new language and embracing the challenges of a new country, Larry graduated from Norwalk High School and began a long, accomplished career marked by dedicated public service. He proudly served in the Army National Guard, overseeing the motor pool and teaching soldiers to drive trucks. His professional life included leadership roles in the automotive and banking industries, and he eventually completed his long career in public service when he retired as General Manager of South Norwalk Electric Works. His expertise in the field earned him the nickname “Electricity Czar” from President George H.W. Bush, and his guidance was sought for major electric projects across the state. His passion for politics was rooted in a belief in the common good and a deep commitment to improving the community for his family, friends, and neighbors.
Larry served as Fire Commissioner and Police Commissioner of Norwalk, a member of the NEON City Anti-Poverty Board, the Mayor’s Advisory Board, and the Norwalk Pension Board. For over 60 years, he was an active member of the Pietro Micca Lodge #744, serving in multiple leadership roles, including four years as president. He was also President of The Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America and a longtime member of the St. Anne Club and Pastime Athletic & Social Club of Norwalk, CT. Larry could often be found at community events like the Oyster Festival, raising money for local charities, or at his favorite coffee shop, sharing laughs and swapping stories over a strong espresso.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Larry was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. He cherished Sunday dinners with family, where he could watch his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson grow together. He loved to travel, whether returning to Italy to visit family or exploring new destinations. He took pride in his garden and found joy in sharing its blessings with everyone around him. He was a natural storyteller with a quick wit and a warm smile that made everyone feel like an old friend. His kindness, humor, and generosity touched many lives and left a legacy that will endure for generations.
Larry was predeceased by his first wife, Marcia Lynn Rossi, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage, in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Lucita Damasco Rossi, whom he married in 2019; his three children: Cynthia DiMaria (Edward), Patricia Stack, and Michael Rossi (Bruna); six grandchildren: Matthew DiMaria (Michelle), Cassidy Stack, Marissa DiMaria, Inva Vuthaj, Jonathan DiMaria (Amelia), and Michael Rossi, Jr.; and his great-grandson, Lucas DiMaria.
