LETICIA VELLUCCI (CASTAÑO)

La historia de Leticia en nuestra familia es, verdaderamente, única,  ejemplar e inspiradora.

Hija de Álvaro Castaño y Cecilia Pavas, campesinos de la región cafetera de Colombia, hermana mayor de una familia de 12 hijos; familia luchadora, emprendedora, que convirtió la escases en un reto para transformar su realidad, mediante el amor, la educación, los valores, el trabajo, la fe y la esperanza en un futuro mejor.

Amante de las labores del campo, como hermana mayor, en su niñez acompañaba y ayudaba a su padre,  en las actividades propias de la finca cafetera, adorada, acogedora e inolvidable del Rodeo, en Pensilvania, Caldas, Colombia.   Se hizo fuerte por dentro y por fuera.  Luchó por construir su casa, su familia en aquel terruño, pero su mente abierta, progresista y el amor la fueron llevando a otros lares, trazando su destino y el de sus hijos.

Su mente viajera la llevó a diferentes partes de su país, Pensilvania, Marquetalia, Bucaramanga y Bogotá, siempre en su perseverante búsqueda de una vida mejor para ella y para sus hijos.

En este camino incesante y con fe inquebrantable a sus 54 años, emprendió una nueva aventura, en un país nuevo para ella, donde cristalizó su sueño dorado, “el sueño americano”.  Nos enseñó que no importan la edad, las circunstancias, las barreras  y que los paradigmas están para superarlos.  Su actitud siempre laboriosa, llena de fe, esperanza y coraje le abrieron las puertas para establecerse en un trabajo que disfrutó al máximo; y un nuevo amor, su Fiori, quien fue su compañero fiel durante la última etapa de sus vidas.

Pero el sueño americano no estaba completo.  Para una enamorada de la familia como Leticia, aún faltaba lo más importante para completar esta hazaña, con esfuerzo y dedicación logró su nacionalidad estadounidense y pudo obtener la estadía legal de sus amados hijos, Xiomara y Rafael; y de sus adorados nietos,  Juan Pablo y Danna Sofía, para vivir juntos este sueño.  Desde ese momento su sonrisa se hizo más grande.

Este fue el nacimiento de una nueva Leti: plena, completa, agradecida, acogedora, dichosa que aprovechaba cada instante de la vida para darse con toda a su disfrute.

Hoy honramos la vida de Leticia Velluci, quien, a sus 76 años, de manera inesperada, inició su viaje a la eternidad. Hija incondicional, hermana amorosa, madre valiente y mujer soñadora, inspiradora, radiante,  que nos enseñó a disfrutar la vida, haciendo significativo cada instante. Nos quedamos con su sonrisa, su coraje y su fortaleza, que fueron siempre un faro de luz en la vida de quienes tuvimos la fortuna de disfrutar su presencia.

Como la recuerda, la honra y la mantendrá viva su familia:

“Mi guerrera, mi reina hermosa.  Descansa en paz, bailarás y reirás pero ya no aquí con nosotros”.

“Nos quedamos con su alegría y la manera de vivir su vida.  Algo que me deja como enseñanza es animarse a tomar más fotos de todo, capturar los momentos bonitos de la vida.  Yo creo que todos tenemos la fortuna de haber quedado en un foto con ella, algo que guardaré como un tesoro en adelante.”

“La vida es preciosa y cuando perdemos a alguien tan enamorada de la misma, reflexionamos acerca del regalo que es cada día.  Gracias a mi tía vimos cómo se disfruta al máximo cada momento, y cómo el  romper paradigmas, está en nuestros genes.  Así como en la tierra, seguro allá, en el más allá, su ser seguirá disfrutando plenamente del `momento/espacio/tiempo.”

“Pude disfrutar de su generosidad sin límites, de sus ganas de compartir con uno todas las cosas hermosas que había descubierto en sus viajes por este mundo; me enseñó la importancia de no dejarnos llevar la alegría del momento presente, por bobadas que se pueden solucionar”

Leticia, antes vivía con nosotros y ahora y siempre vivirá en nosotros.

Leticia's story in our family is truly unique, exemplary and inspiring. Daughter of Álvaro Castaño and Cecilia Pavas, farmers from the coffee region of Colombia, older sister in a family of 12 children; a fighting and entrepreneurial family that turned scarcity into a challenge to transform its reality through love, education, values, work, faith and hope for a better future.

A lover of farm work, as an older sister, in her childhood she accompanied and helped her father in the activities of the beloved, welcoming and unforgettable coffee farm El Rodeo, in Pensilvania, Caldas, Colombia. She became strong inside and out. She fought to build her house and her family in that land, but her open, progressive mind and love took her to other places, charting her destiny and that of her children. Her traveling mind took her to different parts of her country, Pensilvania, Marquetalia, Bucaramanga and Bogotá, always in her persevering search for a better life for herself and then for her children.

On this constant path and with unwavering faith she embarked on a new adventure at 54 years old, in a new country for her, where her golden dream solidified, “the American dream.”

She taught us that age, circumstances, barriers do not matter, and that paradigms are there to overcome them. Her always hard-working attitude, faithfulness, hope and courage opened the doors for her to a job that she enjoyed to the fullest. She found a new love, Fiori, who was her faithful companion during the last stage of their lives.

But the American dream was not complete. For a family lover like Leticia, the most important thing was still missing to complete this feat. With effort and dedication she achieved her American nationality and was able to obtain the legal stay of her beloved children Xiomara and Rafael, and her beloved grandchildren. From that moment on, her smile became bigger. This was the birth of a new Leti, full, complete, grateful, happy, who took advantage of every moment of life to give herself fully to the enjoyment of it.
Today we honor the life of Leticia Velluci, who, at 76 years old, unexpectedly began her journey to eternity. Unconditional daughter, loving sister, brave mother and dreamy, inspiring, radiant woman, who taught us to enjoy life, making every moment meaningful. We are left with her smile, her courage and her strength, which were always a beacon of light in the lives of those of us who were fortunate enough to enjoy her presence. How she is remembered, honored and will be kept alive by her family:
