Kenyon Bailey FitzGerald, Jr.—devoted husband, father, grandfather, businessman, military veteran, and lifelong student of history—passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20th, 2026, surrounded by his family, at the age of 87.

Born in New York City on March 9, 1939, Kenyon was the son of Kenyon Bailey FitzGerald Sr. and Rena Denzer FitzGerald. He graduated from Riverdale Country School in 1956, then attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his degree in History in 1960 and was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Delta fraternity.

After graduating, Kenyon honorably served his country in the United States Army. He went on to build a distinguished career as Vice President of Insurance Underwriting at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, and later as a Principal of McAteer & FitzGerald. Throughout his professional life, he was known for his integrity and thoughtful counsel.

In 1961, Kenyon married the love of his life, Frances Sweeney FitzGerald. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, built on unwavering love, mutual respect, and a deep devotion to family, until Frances passed away in 2015.

A longtime resident of Wilton, Connecticut, and Twilight Park in Haines Falls, New York, Kenyon cherished both communities throughout his life. He was a longstanding member of The Downtown Association and proudly served as President of the Seventh Regiment Fund, reflecting his deep appreciation for history, tradition, and civic service.

A passionate military historian with an exceptional command of the subject, Kenyon delighted in sharing his knowledge with those around him. Whether discussing pivotal historical campaigns, pursuing his interests as a military hobbyist, reading history, traveling internationally, or simply enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the Catskills, he brought genuine passion and appreciation to everything he loved.

Above all, Kenyon will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Irene Rivlin, Louise North (Nelson L. North, Jr.), and Lydia FitzGerald; and by his beloved grandchildren, Hunter B. Geraghty, Ryan Elizabeth Geraghty, Nelson L. North, III, and Kenyon B.F. North. His greatest pride was watching his family grow and celebrating each of their accomplishments.
