NORWALK, CONN Kenneth H. Woollett passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Honey Hill Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk, CT. He was under the loving care of the Masonicare Home, Health and Hospice staff. He was born on December 16, 1924 in Napier, New Zealand, and was the son of the late William and Winifred Woollett. Ken is survived by his wife, Marilynn R. (Nutting) Woollett of Norwalk, a daughter Susan C. (Woollett) Sweeney of Tallahassee, Florida; a son Richard G. Woollett and his wife Patricia of Nottingham, New Hampshire; grandchildren Scott L. Sweeney and his wife Michelle of Tallahassee, Florida; Kimberly (Woollett) Heald and her husband Timothy of Barrington, New Hampshire; Amanda (Woollett) Cafasso and her husband Scott of Rochester, New Hampshire; and Kenneth A. Woollett of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He is survived by several great-grandchildren: Mia Sweeney, Colby Heald and Aubrey Heald. Ken is also survived by a brother Roy E. Woollett and his wife Lorna of Blenheim, New Zealand; two sisters, Stella Williams of Greymouth, New Zealand and Valerie Naulls and her husband Douglas of Taupo, New Zealand. Ken is predeceased by his older brother Jack L. Woollett and his wife Dorothy of New Zealand. During WWII Ken was a pilot in the New Zealand Air Force. Ken and Marilynn met while he was on leave in the United States. They were engaged, and in October 1945 Marilynn set sail on the "Permante", the first ship to sail from the West Coast of the United States after the end of WWII, and she arrived in Auckland, New Zealand in late November 1945. They were married in All Saint's Anglican Church in New Zealand on January 12, 1946, which was Ken's parent's 25th wedding anniversary. After 10 years Ken and Marilynn, with their two children, moved from their home in Palmerston, New Zealand back to Marilynn's hometown in Norwalk, CT. Ken was employed by Klaff's of Norwalk in the plumbing department and then later went to Pacific Plumbing and Heating Company, where he was a Heating Estimator/Salesman. He was a member of the Norskins Scuba Diving Club. Ken was a Deacon of the South Norwalk Congregational Church and also a member of the church bowling team. Ken and Marilynn celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past January 12, 2011. In February 2011, their children and grandchildren surprised them with a party at their residence "The Marvin", a senior congregate facility located at 60 Gregory Blvd. in East Norwalk. All the residents were invited to attend. Ken's family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 1:00PM - 3:00PM.
